With just four days to the Serie A debut for Christian Chivu as the coach of former Serie A champions, Inter Milan, there will definitely be a lot at stake for the club legend in his new role after replacing the former coach, Simone Inzaghi, but he already has some game under his belt.
More Details
He was in charge at the FIFA Club World Cup earlier in the summer and even if the tournament didn’t end well for them, there was enough indications of what to expect from his team and now, the former Parma coach has revealed that he feels the “burden of responsibility” ahead of the Serie A opener against Torino.

The 44-year-old spoke to SportMediaset with just a few days before the Nerazzurri kick off the 2025-26 season with a Monday night game against the Granata at the Giuseppe Meazza Stadium, which will be the first Serie A match in charge of Inter for the Romanian.
Meanwhile, some new faces who have arrived during the summer transfer window will also have a chance to make their league debuts too. Inter came agonizingly close to winning the Serie A title last season. However, they lost out by just a single point to Napoli on the final day of the season.
Therefore, Chivu will have the task of trying to return Inter to the summit of Italian football in his first season at the helm of the club with whom he spent six years as a player. “I don’t talk about my emotions I’m good at hiding them,” he said, then joked “and at not having them.”
“Obviously, coaching the team where I’ve spent a long time and won so much gives me something extra. I’m sure the burden of responsibility I feel here will be able to hide my feelings,” Chivu said. “We try to maintain the same mentality. The same perception of the importance of being an Inter player.”
The coach declared that “there are expectations, passion, and love.” Meanwhile, Chivu called Inter striker Ange-Yoan Bonny “a pure young guy. He’s someone who wants to improve,” he added. “He’s at a big club, and he’s understood that right away by working hard from day one.”
Chivu praised Bonny for “immediately making himself available to the group. Having top players around you allows you to grow quickly,” he further added. As for Alessandro Baston, he feels that Napoli are favourites to retain the Serie A title, but says the Nerazzurri “feel competitive.”
The Italian international spoke to Sky Sport Italia on issues relating to the club and the league ahead of the kick-off this weekend and the Inter star gave his thoughts ahead of the start of the new season. “Our goal is to try to win every match,” said the 26-year-old.
“We’ll need to have more of a cutting edge, be more ruthless We need to have more attention to detail,” he continued. Then, as far as the Serie A title goes, Bastoni commented that “whoever won it last certainly always starts as the favourite,” referring to last season’s champions Napoli.“

“But we feel competitive. We’ll do everything to win.” He further added. Juventus are the last team to have won the Serie A title in back-to-back seasons, in 2018-19 and 2019-20. Juve and Inter are, in fact, the only two teams to have won the Serie A title in consecutive seasons since the turn of the century.
Focusing on Inter, Bastoni added that Inter need to remember how to win matches. “Taking to the pitch with the intention to win three points,” he said when asked for his side’s goals heading into the new season. Even when you’re playing less well, you have to bring home the result.”
“We’ve never lacked hunger. When you lose, there are two roads ahead of you. Either you start again, or you give up. We’ve chosen to start again and to embrace this project more than ever. We have the desire to bring these colours back to the top,” he declared.
As far as Chivu replacing Inzaghi at the helm, the 26-year-old declared: “with a change in coach, certain habits also change. The training methods are much tougher. He focuses a lot on intensity. The work with the ball is much more vertical. He wants to get it to the forwards right away.”
“We still have a few days to get used to his philosophy, but on a human level, he’s been a great surprise. We have no doubt that he’ll do well.” Then, he also added that “the new signings all have top quality. They’ll definitely give us a big boost. We need fresh blood in this group that’s been here for 5-7 years.”

“Beyond the technical side of things, where obviously they’re good – otherwise they wouldn’t have come to Inter – what we need is a lot of enthusiasm.” He concluded. Meanwhile, after completing the signing of Andy Diouf, there could be at least two more signings before the transfer window closes for the Nerazzurri.
