Written By Onyeka Daniel

West Ham having concluded one important piece of business in this transfer market, which is the selling of Declan Rice to Arsenal and armed with the €105m gotten from this transaction, the Hammers are now ready to start their transfer activities.

More Details

Top on their agenda is bringing in a suitable replacement for the England midfielder and they seem to have settled on the choice of Juventus midfielder, Denis Zakaria but they’re also looking to sign a defender too.

The Hammers are interested in picking up Perr Schuurs this summer and are thinking of offering Torino around €20m and Nikola Vlasic for the defender, reports suggest. Schuurs joined the Italian club last summer from Ajax in a deal worth around €9.4m and immediately impressed in Italy, showing his intelligence and defensive solidity.

The 23yrs old has already attracted the attention of multiple clubs around Europe, including Newcastle United, Napoli and Liverpool, but Torino have remained firm for the time being.

West Ham are also interested in picking up Schuurs this summer and may have an advantage of their rivals in the form of Vlasic. Torino have already been in contact with the Hammers to try and set up a new deal for the Croatian forward and his inclusion in the negotiations for Schuurs could prove decisive.

West Ham would also be willing to pay €20m as well, a deal which may be enough to convince the Granata to give up on the Dutchman. For now, it’s still unclear if the player will accept the offer from West Ham who will be playing in the Europa League as against joining Napoli who will be playing in the UCL.

The Serie A champions recently lost Kim Min-Jae to Bayern Munich and wants Schuurs as his replacement. Should Schuurs leave, Torino would look to replace him with Udinese defender, Rodrigo Becao, who only has a year left on his contract.

Meanwhile…

Contrary to reports, Chelsea aren’t planning on signing Argentine forward, Paulo Dybala from Italian side, AS Roma. Dybala joined the Giallorosi at the start of last season after his contract with Juventus had expired.

He signed a contract to June 2025, but it included a specific release clause at just €12m that is only valid for clubs outside of Italy. There were reports that Chelsea had made contact with Dybala’s agent and could activate the €12m release clause in his contract, but it’s not going to happen.

Roma can remove the clause – which stands at €20m for Serie A teams – by increasing his salary to €6m per season. Already, they’re planning to do just that and probably offer him a new contract that will probably get rid of the release clause or even increase the figure. The 29-year-old made 38 competitive appearances for Roma, scoring 18 goals and providing eight assists, so it was his most prolific campaign since 2017-18 at Juventus.
