West Ham Star Under Investigation Over Potential Betting Breaches – Report
Written by Albert Echatah
The Football Association is looking into Lucas Paqueta for possible violations of the betting rules, according to multiple reports from English media outlets.
More Details
The 25-year-old West Ham midfielder has been linked with a transfer to Manchester City. Paqueta was left off of Brazil’s World Cup qualifying roster on Friday “to give him time to resolve his issues.”
Paqueta was quoted by Sky Sports as denying placing any bets himself and expressing disbelief at the accusations.
The probe, which is also rumored to involve Fifa, is thought to be focused on wagers made in Brazil on yellow cards given to Paqueta.
Paqueta was not included in Fernando Diniz’s team for Brazil’s qualifiers against Bolivia and Peru, the interim coach confirmed on Friday.
“Paqueta was on the list, he’s a player I like a lot. It’s a time for him to resolve these issues,” Diniz told reporters.
“People need time to sort these issues out. He’s a player I love, I have the best impressions of him.”
Paqueta helped the Hammers win the Europa Conference League after moving to London from Lyon for £36.5 million last summer. He played in 28 Premier League games last year, scoring four goals and providing three assists.

At the age of 34, Theo Walcott declared his retirement from professional football.
The former winger for Southampton, Everton, and Arsenal said to Gary Neville on The Overlap podcast that the choice is “scary” but that he “wants to try new things.”
After a 23-year career in which he made 397 Premier League appearances, Walcott hangs up his boots. “I’m officially going to be hanging up my boots. It’s very scary, I can’t lie,” said Walcott.
