With only one game left to play, the individual awards race in the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) is shaping up to be as close as the playoff picture.

More Details

With top players missing time due to the World Cup, league’s Most Valuable Player (MVP) might come down to the final weekend.

Sophia Smith could very well end the season with the 2023 Golden Boot, despite missing as much as a quarter of the season.

She has a case for NWSL MVP given her performances when available, but her absences make it difficult to put her at the top of the shortlist.

After changing positions following a trade to the Reign, Sonnett played 120 minutes at defensive midfield for the USWNT in their Round of 16 match after not playing earlier in the World Cup.

"It was kind of a moment in my career where it was like, this is kind of it,” she said. “You gotta either do really well or do really bad."
