In a quick turn around, Italian Serie A side, AS Roma are looking to cash in on their Argentine forward, Paulo Dybala, which is why his agent is meeting representatives of a Saudi Arabian club, with club from the capital city pushing for the striker’s exit mostly for financial reasons.

More Details

Dybala could leave Roma in the coming days as his agent, Carlos Novel, is currently meeting directors of Al Qadsiah, a club that the Argentinean already turned down a few weeks ago.

According to several reports from Italy, including Sky Sport and Republica, Roma are pushing for Dybala’s exit, mainly for financial reasons, his history with injury and his age.

Dybala’s contract in the capital runs out in June 2025 but the deal includes a clause allowing the Argentinean to extend for one more season if he makes a minimum number of appearances.

The contract that Dybala signed two years ago allowed him to automatically extend until 2026 if he had played at least 50% of games for at least 45 minutes during his stay at the club. The 30-year-old played 33 out of 55 games in his first season at Roma and 31 out of 54 last term.

As explained by La Repubblica, this means that 15 appearances in this campaign will be enough to extend his contract until 2026, but Roma can’t afford it. In fact, Dybala’s salary has also been raised to €16m gross this season, and the same will apply in 2025-26, forcing Roma to pay more than €30m across two seasons.

A separate report from Sky Sport did confirm that Dybala’s contract issue is one of the main reasons why Roma are trying to part company with their star, but it remains to be seen if Al Qadsiah will persuade him this time. La Joya had a €13m clause for clubs outside Serie A but it expired at the beginning of August.

“Perhaps Dybala is no longer at the centre of Roma’s project. Partially because of his salary, partially because Roma have signed a replacement in Matias Soulé for €30m and partially because the new guidelines of De Rossi, Ghisolfi and Souloukou see over 30 players differently [from the past],” Sky Sport correspondent Angelo Mangiante said today.

Roma have already reached an agreement with Jeremy Boga, former Sassuolo winger who currently plays for OGC Nice in the French Ligue 1, and according to Gianluca Di Marzio, the winger’s agent, Fali Ramadani, has already given the green light to the transfer, so Roma is now in talks with the French club.

According to La Repubblica, De Rossi has already informed Dybala that he’ll start on the bench in the first game of the season against Cagliari on Sunday, and only a few days ago, he had admitted that Dybala was not unsellable.

This new round of talks is expected to yield some result after Dybala had initially rejected the offers from the Middle East clubs that have shown an interest in him.
