With A Tempting Offer, Inter Milan Jump Ahead Of Juventus For Young Serie A Striker
Written By Onyeka Daniel
With just 9 games to go, until the end of the current season, league leaders, Inter Milan are already putting plans in place for next season, trying to assemble a squad that can help defend their potential Serie A title and also in Europe, while not forgetting the club world Cup. That is not to say that they see this season as over already, far from it.
More Details
In fact, their vice president, Javier Zanetti revealed that the plan for the rest of the season after crashing out of the UCL; “There are still nine matches to go,” the Inter Vice-President noted. “So we want to get over the line one match at a time.” He further added.
With regards to the transfer market, the Nerazzurri have two major areas to strengthen, the attack with one young striker and the central defense in the back three. They might also look to bring in a goalkeeper, but that’s not top priority right now. For the attack, they’re plotting a summer move for Genoa’s Albert Gudmundsson, which could include offering Valentin Carboni, 0according to Gazzetta dello Sport.

Gudmundsson is a player whose star has been rising steadily in the past twelve months or so. The Icelander joined Genoa in January of 2022. However, he was not able to prevent the Grifone from suffering relegation to Serie B in his first season at the club. Last campaign, Gudmundsson helped Genoa to come straight back up to Serie A.
And back in the top flight, the former AZ Alkmaar forward has thrived. Gudmundsson has been one of the outstanding players from outside of Serie A’s biggest clubs. The 26-year-old has bagged ten goals and three assists so far this season. Moreover, Gudmundsson has brought far more than just goals and assists to the team.
His versatility has been a key asset for Genoa. Gudmundsson can play anywhere from central midfield to as a striker. Inter saw this firsthand as the 26-year-old played both roles effectively in a recent Serie A Match. He has also been impressing for his country recently, scoring a hat-trick role as Iceland beat Israel 4-1 in a Euro 2024 qualifying match on Thursday. Gudmundsson’s hat-trick proved to be the difference in that match.
But then, Inter are not the only club with an interest in Gudmundsson. Juventus are also keen on the 26-year-old. But the Nerazzurri are increasingly thinking about making Gudmundsson their main target in attack for this summer, and strategizing on how they could beat the competition for his signature. Genoa will want at least €30 million for him.

But Inter could hope to lower that valuation somewhat by including young attacking midfielder Valentin Carboni as part of the deal. Another option is to structure a deal for Gudmundsson similarly to the one that saw them sign Davide Frattesi from Sassuolo last summer. That deal was an initial loan. However, it contained an obligation to sign Frattesi on a permanent basis for a fee.
Meanwhile…
For the defense, Kim Min-Jae, Konstantinos Mavropanos, and Chris Smalling are among Inter’s targets in defense this summer, according to the same report. Inter will most likely be looking to sign a player to reinforce their defense in the summer transfer window. The Nerazzurri currently have Francesco Acerbi and Stefan de Vrij as central players in the back three.
However, both are well into their thirties, and their contracts expire at the end of June 2025. Moreover, Acerbi is currently at the centre of a firestorm concerning his alleged racial abuse of Napoli’s Juan Jesus. Therefore, the former Lazio man’s future at Inter is in doubt, hence Inter are in the hunt for a tall, physical centre-back with strong man-marking ability around the penalty area to bolster their defense.
The big opportunity for Inter could be a surprise move for Bayern Munich defender Kim. The 27-year-old only joined the German champions last summer. But it has not been a debut season that has quite gone according to expectations for him. Kim has recently fallen out of favour in Bayern’s starting eleven. Therefore, the South Korean international is increasingly unhappy with his situation in Bavaria. He could push for an exit at the end of the campaign.

And the former Fenerbahce defender did enjoy one very positive season in Serie A – helping power Napoli to last season’s title. According to the report, Inter are testing the waters as far as a loan move for Kim this summer. Meanwhile, 26-year-old Greek international Mavropanos is a player who Inter have eyed up for some time.
The former Arsenal defender returned to London last summer. He joined West Ham United from Stuttgart. But Mavropanos has not been a guaranteed starter for the Hammers by any means. And Inter could swoop for the Greek this summer.
