With Calafiori’s Exit Getting Nearer, Bologna Ready To Spoil Juventus Plan For Arsenal Defender

Written By Onyeka Daniel

It’s no longer news that Bologna defender, Riccardo Calafiori is attracting plenty of interest, and his most likely destina is England with Arsenal leading Chelsea and PSG in the race for his signature.

More Details

While Juventus were said to be interested, the Rossoblu decided not to do any deal with the Bianconeri, because of how they poached Thiago Motta from them, and they might still prevent them from signing another defensive target in the process.

Juve are reportedly interested in striking a deal with Arsenal for former Spezia defender Jakub Kiwior, seeing the 24-year-old as an alternative to Calafiori, who is close to agreeing a deal with Arsenal according to reports in Italy earlier this week.

Arsenal’s potential signing of the Italy international could trigger a chain-reaction among the defensive unit at the Emirates. If Calafiori were to be brought in (the Gunners have reportedly tabled a formal offer), then Kiwior could potentially be available for a permanent transfer away from Arsenal this summer.

Juventus are trying to position themselves in the race, with the approval of their new manager. The pair worked well together during their time at Spezia and, in fact, it was Motta who signed the versatile defender back in 2021. Motta even used Kiwior as a midfielder at certain points of his Spezia career due to his technical ability on the ball.

He then became Spezia’s record sale in the transfer market, joining Arsenal for a reported €25m fee in January of 2023.According to reports from Tuttosport, Juventus sporting director Cristiano Giuntoli has also followed the young Gunner for several years, dating back to his time as a director with Napoli.

Giuntoli had even tried to bring the defender to Naples around the time of his Arsenal signing. But Bologna will want to play spoiler, looking to use their close relationship with Arsenal to get a favorable deal for Kiwior.

After securing UCL football, they’re in need of reinforcement, and could look to sign the Polish defender as a direct replacement for Calafiori, perhaps, the two clubs could even discuss this as part of their negotiations for the Italian defender.

It will definitely be one angle to watch out for as Bologna will have to pay Basel 40% of whatever fee that they receive for Calafiori after signing him from the Swiss club a year ago. This will definitely be a huge blow to Juventus as another of their target, Alessandro Buongiorno is set to join Napoli from Torino.

Meanwhile…

According to reports, AC Milan are interested in Alvaro Morata who has a €13m clause in his contract with Atletico Madrid as the Rossoneri continue their search for a striker to replace Olivier Giroud.

After hitting a brick wall with Joshua Zirkzee’s agent, the club are now looking at other options, especially with reports are ready to move forward for the Dutch striker. Romelu Lukaku is one name that has popped up, and now, Morata has joined the mix.

The Spaniard has a €13m clause included in his contract with the Los Rojiblancos and according to the report, he must decide whether to consider a move to San Siro. Morata announced his desire to remain at Atletico Madrid in a recent Instagram post.

But according to Di Marzio, the striker aimed to deny a possible move to the Saudi Pro League. He had previously stated that he would consider an exit from the club if he’s not guaranteed of regular playing time. Therefore, a move to Milan remains on the cards.

But Morata will probably decide on a possible transfer to San Siro after EURO 2024, and would have to take a pay cut in salary to facilitate the move. A former Juventus striker, Morata is Spain’s captain at the Euros. He scored 21 goals in 48 matches with Atletico Madrid last season.
