WNBA Announces All-Star Game Starters

On Wednesday, the Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA) announced who will be heading to the Windy City on July 10 to start in the 2022 All-Star Game.
More Details
In a bit of a twist, both All-Star teams will have co-captains, honoring the last pro years of Sylvia Fowles and Sue Bird, who were both voted into the starting lineup.
Brittney Griner will also be included as an honorary starter. Griner has been selected as an All-Star in every season of her career, and commissioner Cathy Englebert said it was only right to include her this year.
Captaining alongside Fowles and Bird are the two players with the most votes between fans, media, and players: Las Vegas’s A’ja Wilson and Seattle’s Breanna Stewart.
Wilson will be paired with Bird, and Stewart with Fowles, as they select their respective All-Star rosters during ESPN’s broadcast of the WNBA All-Star Team Selection Special on Saturday, July 2.

Other starters include Sabrina Ionescu, Jonquel Jones, Nneka Ogwumike, Candace Parker, Kelsey Plum, and Jackie Young.
Off to a hot 13-3 start to their season, the Aces have the most All-Star starters in Wilson, Plum, and Young.
This will be Plum, Young, and Ionescu’s first All-Star inclusion, contrasted by 2022 being Bird’s 13th.
If you don’t see your favorite player on the list, fear not: 12 more players will be selected as All-Star reserves by the league’s coaches and announced on June 28.
Meanwhile…
No coach is allowed to vote for their own player, and if any player can not participate in the All-Star game for any reason, a replacement player will be chosen by Englebert.

You can see the full tally of votes here, and they’re worth checking out if only to see the differences in opinion between fans, media, and players (what is up with Parker and Skylar Diggins-Smith’s player scores?).
No matter what, All-Star weekend is going to be a party, and it’s worth getting excited about it.
