WNBA: Evaluating Diana Taurasi At 40

Diana Taurasi isn’t the same player she was 10 years ago, but she’s also not done breaking records.
More Details
The Phoenix Mercury star inked her name in the history books once again Thursday night, becoming the first WNBA player to score 30 or more points at the age of 40 or older.
She joins Michael Jordan and Dirk Nowitzki as only the third athlete to complete the feat in WNBA or NBA history.
Taurasi hasn’t been perfect this season, drawing ire with a mistimed kick against Sylvia Fowles on July 14 and a shove against Ariel Atkins the following day.

There have also been questions about the team’s locker room chemistry after Tina Charles left the squad midseason to join the Seattle Storm.
But she’s also been essential to Phoenix’s playoff push alongside MVP candidate Skylar Diggins-Smith.
Meanwhile…
Taurasi hasn’t made any definitive statements about her future, but she’s aware of the nature of her historic season at 40 years old.

“Well, I mean, at this point — we were just talking about it in the hallway — when you’re old, everything’s a record,” Taurasi said Thursday.
“The first person to miss 15 3s in a game over 40. The first person to have four offensive fouls in a two-minute span over 40.
“So, at least at this point, I’m just happy with a win. We can be the best team at 40, then I’m happy.”
