Napheesa Collier returned to the court on Sunday, only three months after giving birth to daughter Mila in May.

More Details

The 25-year-old had expressed interest in playing one last time with Lynx teammate Sylvia Fowles, who is set to retire at the end of the season.

Collier jumped right back into the starting lineup for Minnesota, who defeated the Atlanta Dream 81-71 in an important win for the team’s playoff chase.

Collier contributed six points, two rebounds, and one assist, while her teammate Kayla McBride led all scorers with 20 points, four rebounds, and six assists.

“[Collier]’s got to catch up with the speed of the game and as things are happening, but that’s probably about as successful as I thought it could be, playing probably a bit longer than what we initially thought,” said Lynx coach Cheryl Reeve.

The Lynx are currently 13-20, one game outside of the three remaining playoff positions.

Reeve said that Collier’s return was hastened by Aerial Powers’s unavailability due to a sore knee.

“I was really excited,” Collier said postgame. “Obviously, there’s some nerves coming in, especially this late in the season and trying to get back here and rush to do everything. But it felt so good to hear my name called and have the fans cheer for me.”

The 2019 Rookie of the Year signed a multi-year contract extension in the offseason that will keep her with the Lynx through 2025.
