Ahead of the 2024/2025 women’s football season in Europe and United States of America (USA), there has been groundbreaking deals involving huge money.
More Details
While the cash transactions in women’s football transfers is still far behind their men’s counterparts, the success story of the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup is having a bush fire effect in the turnaround in women’s transfers.
About 226 transfers have taken place this summer, a higher level of activity than the last three seasons, according to Deloitte.
For the records, Mayra Ramirez’s move from Spanish Liga F side Levante to English Women’s Super League (WSL) champions Chelsea last January was the previous transfer record at €450,000
The record was broken by Rachael Kundananji’s switch from Madrid CFF (Spain) to Bay FC (USA), in a deal worth €735,000 in February.
The move saw international spending in women’s transfers reach all-time high according to the Federation of International Football Association (FIFA).
There were collective trading of approximately €1.96 million in transfer fees (150% rise from the winter of 2023).
Apart from three monitored deals, most of the transfers were either undisclosed with money exchanging hands or free transfers.
Olivia Smith joined Liverpool from Sporting CP for €250,000 while Barcelona paid €500,000 to get Ewa Pajor from Wolfsburg.
