One person that’s anticipating the clash so very much is the Portuguese coach who sees the match as an avenue for his team to regain confidence.
Speaking at his pre match press conference Nuno pointed at the injuries ravaging his team amidst other issues.
On how much he’s looking forward to his first derby he said: “Yeah, you’re right. It’s not another game. It’s a special game. A special game for us, a special game for our fans. It’s going to be a tough match but no doubt, it’s a different game.”
“We expect a tough match and for us, we have to compete, we have to play and compete well. Give everything that we can and play good. Playing good is finding the right balance in our game. Improvements to be made but a lot of positives that we take from the previous games, so let’s keep on going.”
“They are a good team, what we look at is now. Good and talented, quality players in the squad. We expect a tough match. Recent weeks better results, this is the assessment we make. We have to try and get the right info to the players to deliver.” He said about Sunday’s opponents.
The coach confirmed the return of Lucas Moura who has been out injured: “That’s the difference. Stevie is not OK. Sess also. But the good news is Lucas has joined the group.”
The former Wolves coach has been involved in derby matches but he believes this in particular will be a tough one. “I had many, many situations in derbies but this is a new one, a tough one, and a good one, a special one for our fans. If it’s special for our fans, it’s very special for us.”
Meanwhile…
Spurs fans have come out to fault the decision not to appoint Erik Ten Hag who was one of the candidates taken into consideration after the departure of Jose Mourinho.
The Ajax boss was said to have been interviewed by chairman Daniel Levy for the then vacant post which has since been occupied by Nuno Espírito Santo who was favorited over the former Dortmund coach.
With just a handful of games into the new season, Spurs fans are already calling for the head of the Portuguese tactician after a string of disappointing results and a system of football that isn’t synonymous with the North London outfit.

Ten Hag’s Ajax side have scored 27 goals in their first six league games this season conceding just one along the way. The league and level of competition might be different but the efficiency of the attacking football known with the Dutch coach can be seen and measured by their 5-1 drubbing of Portuguese champions Sporting Lisbon away from home in the Champions League.
Santo has changed the setup and system of the side whereas Ten Hag sets up his team in a way that’s not different from the way Spurs have played in recent years.
However, there’s still a lot of time for Santo to redeem himself as there are 33 games left before the end of the season.
