Young Forward Reveals His Inspiration On His Debut After Inter Started The New Year With A Win
It was an all round performance on the night at the Giuseppe Meazza stadium as former Serie A champions, Inter Milan reclaimed their spot at the top of the table after this weekend round of matches and it was against a top opponent, Bologna as they got their revenge for their recent loss.

The Nerazzurri secured a fifth consecutive Serie A victory to keep hold of top spot, but were also eager to prove a point as they had lost a penalty shoot-out against the Rossoblu just a couple of weeks ago in the Supercoppa Italiana semi-final, which had ended 1-1 on the night.

Furthermore, last season’s defeat at the Stadio Dall’Ara was also a decisive moment in the Scudetto race, but Piotr Zielinski, Lautaro Martinez and Marcus Thuram secured the 3-1 win at the San Siro while Santiago Castro pulled one back late on and there was still time for history to be made.
It was also a day that young Inter star Matteo Lavelli will remember for the rest of his career, as the young forward made his senior debut for the club in front of the fans as he was introduced later on and he was able to savour the atmosphere of the stadium while taking his first steps at top level in an Inter shirt.
Speaking to Inter TV after the final whistle the youngster admitted that the occasion carried its own challenges. “It wasn’t easy, it was a new experience and I tried to adapt as quickly as possible,” Lavelli explained, highlighting the intensity and pace of senior football compared to youth level.
He also revealed the simple but reassuring message he received from Cristian Chivu before stepping onto the pitch. “What did Chivu say to me? Nothing changes, do what you know how to do,” he said, underlining the trust shown by the coaching staff in allowing him to express himself naturally.
When asked about the players he looks up to, Lavelli made it clear that he is learning from those around him every day. “Who do I take inspiration from? All of the Inter forwards in the squad, I take something from everyone,” he noted, pointing to the importance of observation and development within a competitive group.
Above all, the emotions of the night stood out. “As an Inter fan, I enjoyed the most beautiful stadium to the fullest,” Lavelli said, summing up a debut that blended personal pride with a memorable team victory and he will be hoping that it would be the start of a great career with the club.
Meanwhile, for the duo of Lautaro and Zielinski, they also spoke to the press after the game as their goals helped the Beneamata secure a win over an opponent that they’ve failed to beat since 2024 with the recent loss in Saudi Arabia still fresh in the memory.

“I said before the game that we had prepared a plan, and it worked so well, as we started with a strong press after losing the ball, and this caused real problems for Bologna. Our midfielders also helped on the second ball, which is how we created the chances for the goals,” Lautaro told DAZN Italia.
The Inter captain has now scored six goals in his last five Serie A appearances, although the match didn’t start well as his fingers were accidentally trodden on in the opening minutes. “These are three very important points for the team. My hand hurts, but I push through it and give my all for the team, so I go home happy tonight.”
The Argentine forward also celebrated with Thuram after that bizarre goal, where the Frenchman scored with his chest, not perhaps entirely sure what was happening. “We had our last sprint after that goal, I’m glad for him, he deserves it. Everyone works hard for the team and we all want to take Inter as far as possible.” He continued.
Zielinski scored his second goal of the Serie A season, the third in all competition, and is becoming a regular in the starting line-up with Chivu, better than his first season with Simone Inzaghi. “I’ve been in good condition for a while, I am glad that I can give my support to the team,” Zielinski told DAZN Italia.

“It went well apart from the late goal, we had it largely under control, which was important because we’d had problems with Bologna recently.” He further added. Now, the team will start preparations for their next game, a midweek fixture against Parma away from home, which will be a return to familiar grounds for Chivu.
