AS Roma forward, Nicolo Zaniolo has revealed that he is ready to do whatever is needed to see the team win after scoring the second goal in the Giallorossi’s 4-0 win over Zorya Luhansk.

More Details

The Italy international had been dropped to the bench in two previous games by the coach Jose Mourinho with reports claiming the young Italian confronted his trainer for a more advanced role.

Zaniolo after his first appearance in three games accepted the decision of the coach in good faith and claims he will play anywhere in the team.

“More than anything for me, it was about the team – it’s an important victory. Because it was not straightforward to get through the group, given the situation we were in. So that’s the most important thing tonight.

“I can play there (advanced position), I can play out wide, I can play anywhere in the attacking positions. The coach said I would be playing there and so I played there. I’m ready to do whatever is needed for the team.” Zaniolo said.

Zaniolo also disclosed that playing under the Portuguese has taught never to be comfortable even after a good game.

“To never get comfortable. After a good performance you always need to ask even more of yourself next time. We need to always improve and work hard on that.”

Jose Mourinho in defense of Nicolo Zaniolo has appealed to the media to leave the 22-year-old alone particularly the press in Rome.

“As a player he seems sometimes to struggle with negative feelings. Against Juventus he was playing really well, a bit like today except against a better side, but then the first time he took a blow to the knee he got a bit scared – as happens to any player who has suffered a serious injury.

“You need to leave him be. If I can ask the press in Rome not to tell lies, not to make up stories, not to create problems between us that don’t exist. I’m here to help him not to judge him.” The coach said.

“I get that lies sell more papers, but especially in Rome – if you are a Roma fan – then you should leave him be. Perhaps Roberto Mancini would also be happy if we can build up a Zaniolo who could help the national team.”

It will be interesting to see if the former Inter Milan youth player has fully returned to the starting line-up as the Giallorossi host Torino on Sunday.
