Written by Olaleye Oluwadamilola
Joao Felix, the Portuguese forward on loan at Barcelona has been involved in very little of the team’s second half of the season. He was brought on for the last nine minutes of their crucial match at the weekend, when the team was trailing Girona by two goals. Even though the player and the team have stated that they hope to continue their partnership next season, it doesn’t seem likely.

It’s clear that Felix’s future at Atletico Madrid is in jeopardy based on a report from Diario AS that the team is considering the idea of Felix returning in the summer and staying on. Barcelona does not have a lot of money, and Atletico has insisted that Felix’s wages and amortization be covered. They do not want to give Felix away.
According to the Madrid daily, Felix might have a role to play because Atletico Madrid who are considering offers for Memphis Depay, Alvaro Morata, and Angel Correa is short of forward options going into the new season.
Felix is valued at €60 million, but they probably won’t find a buyer unless an ambitious Saudi Arabia bid which the player is certainly going to turn down as he is keen to remain in Europe. In light of the current circumstances and the ambiguity surrounding Barcelona’s ability and willingness to negotiate an agreement with Atletico, Los Colchoneros must now consider that possibility of bringing him back to the team.
Despite only making 24 starts, the Portuguese has 10 goals and 6 assists in 41 appearances, but he has missed most of Barcelona’s most important games during the second half of the season.
Meanwhile…
Multiple sources are reporting that Mario Hermoso will be departing Atletico Madrid in the summer. The decision has been made to part ways between the two sides, who have been in unsuccessful negotiations, regarding the 28-year-old defender whose contract expires at the end of the current campaign.
The news would have been enthusiastically received in the offices of several European teams. Inter Milan, which now behind Aston Villa in the race, is among those thought to be paying close attention to Hermoso’s circumstances.
