Former Wolves Boss Julen Lopetegui Emerges As Manchester United’s Top Candidate To Replace Erik Ten Hag – Report
Written by Albert Echatah
According to reports, Julen Lopetegui, the former manager of Wolverhampton Wanderers, is emerging as a “strong candidate” to succeed Erik ten Hag at Manchester United.
Ten Hag is under a lot of pressure at Old Trafford after United’s humbling 3-0 home loss to AFC Bournemouth on Saturday, Ten Hag’s men also finished bottom of their Champions League group. The Red Devils are currently sixth in the Premier League standings.
Ten Hag, the Dutch manager, has come under fire for his recruitment, playing style, and handling of some players, notably Jadon Sancho. A number of commentators have advocated for United to fire Ten Hag and appoint a new manager, and it is currently thought that the team is actively seeking potential candidates.
Spanish publication Relevo claims that Lopetegui’s performance at Wolves, his familiarity with the English language and the Premier League, and his background in European competitions have made him a top choice.
Lopetegui’s close bonds with some current United players in the locker room, including as Casemiro, Raphael Varane, and Sergio Reguilon, are also believed to have impressed the board.
Due to these elements and his connection to former United goalkeeper David de Gea, whom the team supposedly wants to bring back, Lopetegui is now considered as a stronger option than Roberto De Zerbi, Graham Potter, and Zinedine Zidane.

Meanwhile…
Erik ten Hag is anxious to prevent Jadon Sancho from making a “empty gesture,” therefore Manchester United is apparently willing to accept a “significant loss” on him.
Sancho has a disruptive impact on the rest of United’s team, according to manager Ten Hag, who is determined to get rid of the winger.
This season, Sancho and Ten Hag had a nasty falling out, with the Dutchman publicly criticizing his player in the media for his lack of effort in practice. After spending £73 million on him in 2021, United is now willing to suffer a “significant loss” on the player in the January transfer window.
