The 33 year old who currently plays in the La Liga with Elche has taken time to laud the performance of the diminutive Argentine at the ongoing World Cup in Qatar.

Messi has almost single-handedly driven his team to the final with five goals and three assists coupled with four man of the match awards.

The Albiceleste come up against France in the final on Sunday and Pastore believes the PSG man who has been the saviour can make Argentina triumph over their European counterparts.

“It impressed me. Leo looks very mature and well trained. The truth is that he faced this World Cup with a lot of pressure, as always happens in Argentina. He is the best player in the world and we consider him The Saviour, the chosen one, the one who can make us win the trophy. I think he’s handling this very well.” He said to L’Equipe.

Pastore played alongside Messi for Argentina for seven years between 2010 and 2017.

Santos first took charge of the national team in 2014 before going on to lead them to Euro 2016 victory as well as the Nations League in 2018.

Santos’ dismal outing in charge of the national team in Qatar has led to his immediate dismissal by the governing body who think that a change is now needed.

The former Greece national team handler sent an open letter of appreciation and good luck to the team via the official channel of the federation.

“I leave with a huge feeling of gratitude, enormous for the privilege it was to have been a coach and the honour of representing the country. It was a dream I realised, a life goal I achieved. All none excluded. When you lead groups you have to make difficult decisions, it’s normal that not everyone is happy with the choices I’ve made. But the ones I did have always been thinking best for the national team. Thanks to my fellow coaches and clubs that have given many players to the national team, with which I have always had a very good relationship, open and loyal- I thank my technical staff, the FPF, in the people of Humberto Coelho and Joao Pinto, always by my side, and all the staff who have worked more closely with me in recent years, but also all those I have crossed in They will remain forever in my heart, especially thanks to Dr. Fernando Gomes, he has always supported me and was what should be a leader in good times and especially in the most difficult times. A final word to the Portuguese fans, from now on I will be one of the many millions who are to the national team. I will be body and soul, as always, not on the field, but on the stands and everywhere, to sing our anthem and wish that the team of all of us will give us so much joys.”

Santos took charge of 109 Portuguese games and won 67 of them with 19 losses and 23 draws recorded.
