NWSL Expansion Teams Keep Building
Written by Oluwaseun Oyediji
While other teams compile their expansion draft lists, new National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) team Bay FC and the returning Utah Royals have not kept idle.
More Details
Both sides made free agency signings on Tuesday and appear to remain open to trades for other teams’ expansion protection.
Bay FC signed free agent defender Caprice Dydasco, most recently of the Houston Dash and the 2021 NWSL Defender of the Year.
Utah signed free agent forward Michele Vasconcelos, most recently with Portland, who has strong ties to the area.
Utah also traded for midfielders Emily Gray and Frankie Tagliaferri from the North Carolina Courage, as well as San Diego Wave defender Kaleigh Riehl.
Meanwhile…
NWSL free agents haven't been eager to sign ahead of the expansion draft on December 15, meaning a number of intriguing names still have choices to make.

OL Reign (Rose Lavelle and Emily Sonnett), Portland (Crystal Dunn and Becky Sauerbrunn), and Chicago (Mallory Swanson and Tierna Davidson) each have high-profile free agents testing the market.
Portland's Crystal Dunn has made it known she'll be taking her talents elsewhere in 2024, but she hasn't indicated where she'd like to land.
For the first time, restricted free agents could find themselves in the midst of a bidding war with their home clubs, who can match outside offers.
