Veteran midfielder Luka Modric appears close to signing a contract extension with Real Madrid. After initial friction over playing time, both sides seem to have reached an agreement.
More Details
Earlier in the season, the 38-year-old publicly expressed frustration about being benched but the Croatian captain has seemingly accepted a reduced role as a substitute, contributing his experience when needed.
To facilitate the deal, Modric reportedly agreed to a pay cut as Coach Carlo Ancelotti has hinted at Modric’s continued importance, suggesting a valuable role for him despite fewer starts.
The Croatian star’s future was a source of discussion throughout the season but his performances in the Champions League knockout stages solidified his value. Coming off the bench, Modric provided a steadying influence when replacing Toni Kroos.
With just signatures reportedly needed to finalize the deal, fans can expect to see Modric remain with Real Madrid for another season.
Meanwhile…
Real Madrid, needing a replacement for departing defender Nacho Fernandez have set their sights on Rafa Marin returning from his successful loan spell at Alaves.
While Real Madrid considers Marin their Nacho replacement, Napoli has also emerged as a potential destination. Their incoming sporting director, Giovanni Manna is reportedly a big admirer and scouts have even watched Marin play in person.

However, persuading Marin might be difficult. He’s set on proving himself at Real Madrid next season. While a lucrative offer could sway Los Blancos, they’re unlikely to sell unless their primary target, Leny Yoro, becomes more affordable.
